With a working age population of over 3.7 million people within a 45-minute drive, Coweta County is uniquely located to help companies maximize their ability to attract a qualified workforce.  Coweta’s location along Interstate 85 provides easy access to workers from throughout the west Georgia/east Alabama region

Coweta County is a regional employment hub and is a recognized leader for talent and workforce development.  Through partnerships with local, state and national leaders, Coweta County excels at helping companies find and keep the talent they need.

However, we know that the future workforce is important for future growth and development.  That’s why Coweta County has placed such a strong emphasis on developing the talent of the future.

Central Educational Center (CEC)
In 2000, through a community partnership, Coweta County created Central Educational Center (CEC), which quickly became the model for Georgia’s college and career academy initiative.  The mission of CEC is to ensure a viable workforce for the 21st Century.  Drawing students from Coweta County’s three high schools, CEC provides specialized courses to students based on targeted needs in the community, particularly those of Coweta’s businesses and industries. In addition to the advanced high school curriculum, CEC also houses a portion of West Georgia Technical College and its college-level courses. Both high school and adult age students earn valuable certifications in West Georgia Technical College courses.

Georgia Consortium for Advanced Technical Training (GA CATT)
Then, in 2016, Coweta County became the first community in the nation to develop an apprenticeship program using a consortium of local industries through the Georgia Consortium for Advanced Technical Training (GA CATT).  Targeting an occupation in high demand – industrial mechanics – a local partnership that included Coweta County companies, the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southeastern United States, the Technical College System of Georgia and others, developed the inaugural program to help ensure a trained workforce in key occupational areas.  Beginning in 10th grade, high school students have the opportunity to complete their education with a high school diploma, German apprenticeship certificate and as associate degree in Industrial Mechanics through West Georgia Technical College.

For key occupations identified by the local business community, similar programs can be developed and implemented, helping ensure a steady supply of trained future employees.

Georgia Quick Start
The Quick Start program provides employee training at no-cost to qualifying new or expanding companies in Georgia.  The program is recognized annually as one of the top programs in the nation.

West Georgia Technical College
West Georgia Technical College is a state leader in technical and adult education.  Its over 7,200 credit students make West Georgia Technical College the 2nd largest technical college in Georgia.  With campuses throughout the region, including the 38-acre Coweta Campus, West Georgia Technical College offers more than 130 degree, diploma and certificate programs in addition to providing adult basic education and GED preparation courses.  Corporate training and continuing education departments offer a wide array of courses to business and industry and to individuals who want short-term, targeted offerings.

College and Universities
Coweta County’s location provides easy access to an array of colleges and universities, including local campuses for the University of West Georgia, Brewton-Parker College and Mercer University.

Georgia Department of Labor
A key player in the recruitment of talent and workforce is the Georgia Department of Labor.  Through the department’s Career Center in Newnan, companies have access to a wide variety of services to help employers meet their business needs through employee recruitment and selection, workforce information and technical support.  The Newnan Career Center can be reached at 770-254-7220 or through the DOL website at dol.georgia.gov.
